My name is Nic Guest-Jelley, and I’ve been playing and writing songs for thirty years. In all that time, I never stopped to properly ask why certain songs work the way they do — why a particular chord change lands in your chest, or why a song you’ve heard a hundred times can still surprise you. This blog is my attempt to answer that question, one song at a time.

Wrapped Up in Songs takes its name from a Belle and Sebastian song, which feels right — this is a project born out of love for music rather than expertise about it. I’m a web developer by day, a songwriter by instinct, and a listener always. The songs I write about are the ones that have stopped me in my tracks, and what I’m really looking for is what I can learn from them.
